Coffee in the 17th Century

Isn’t that so? In this blog we’ll take a look at one of our selected roasts. Actually we’re nuts about most coffees, but they must be prepared with a certain expertise — as they are by our Select Coffee Roasters…  compare pricing on 8oz to 5-lb, wholesale bags in our Sumatra Coffee Bean shop.

Sumatra Coffee Roasts

Sumatra Coffee: Sumatra Mandheling coffees are known worldwide for a heavy rich body. The coffee nuts in the hut think of it almost like dessert. Historically, Arabica coffee production in Sumatra began in the 1700’s under Dutch colonial control.  Mandheling is an older Dutch spelling of Mandailing, which is an ethnic group, not a name for a part of the Country.  There are many different different styles and classes of Sumatra which makes it so much fun to try the different offerings in our shops.

We like how they describe Sumatra Coffee over at Specialty Coffee Advisor (a great coffee reference site): “We cup Sumatra after Sumatra to find that earthy, deep, complex, full-bodied coffee that exhibits low-acidity smoothness and a touch of forest floor funk.” Yeah… forest floor funk… coffee can really take you places.  Remember to sample more than one Sumatra roast and blend — you’ll be surprised at the variety.

What do you think of Columbian Coffee? Be sure to write and tell us (use the comments section below) about your favorite coffee experience — and “coffee funk”. We will pick a winner each month and send you some beans so you can enjoy more coffee funk.
