coffee trees in hawaii

Coffee trees in hawaii nourished by volcanic soil, ocean breezes and tropical climate.

“Way too much coffee. But if it weren’t for the coffee, I’d have no identifiable personality whatsoever.” ~David Letterman

Sounds right, but just don’t blame the coffee for all that hanky panky with the interns, eh Dave? In this post we’ll take a look at one of our selected roasts — Hawaiian. Actually we’re nuts about most coffees, but they must be prepared with a certain expertise as they are by our Select Coffee Roasters..

Hawaiian Coffee Roasts

Hawaiian: Hawaiian coffees are grown on volcanic soil in a tropical paradise that is cooled by a gentle ocean breeze. What can compare to sipping fresh roasted Kona Coffee on a terrace overlooking the pacific? Most pure, Hawaiian coffees, vendors sell, are “varietal” (not a blend) though several coffee suppliers do offer blends. Kona, a dark, rich coffee is a particular favorite of coffee nuts. It is also more expensive than other coffees which is why many roasters offer blends in addition to pure Kona.  We suggest you compare blends to pure Kona Coffees from select gourmet roasters:  Coffee Bean Direct, and Jeremiah’s Pick Coffees — just use the search at left and type in “kona”.  Or, review many choices of kona coffee in our Hawaiian coffee bean shop.

According to Wikipedia, “Kona coffee is the market name for coffee (Coffea arabica) cultivated on the slopes of Hualalai and Mauna Loa in the North and South Kona Districts of the Big Island of Hawaii. This coffee has developed a reputation that has made it one of the most expensive and sought-after coffees in the world. Only coffee from the Kona Districts can be legally described as “Kona”. The unique Kona weather pattern of sunny mornings, cloud cover or rain in the afternoons, little wind and mild nights combined with porous, mineral rich volcanic soil, creates favorable coffee growing conditions. The Hawaiian translation for the word “Coffee” is Kope, pronounced “co-Pay”.”

Be sure to write and tell us (use the comments section below) about your favorite coffee experience used to boost your own “personality”. We will pick a winner each month and send you some beans so you can enjoy more coffee funk.
